At Indian River State College (IRSC), most first-time-in-college students are also first-generation college students, with little knowledge of the textbook purchasing process.
This session explores IRSC’s innovative approach to increasing student awareness of OER. Through collaboration between librarians, the OER Workgroup, advisors, and counselors, IRSC has developed in-person and online informational sessions to help students navigate OER and textbook purchasing. Attendees will learn how this effort reduces barriers, promotes informed decision-making, and supports student success in the face of rising course material costs.
